Indian farmer invents irrigation system using recycled plastic bottles
A farmer in Odisha has come up with an innovative way of watering his fields using bamboo pipes and plastic bottles
Mahur Tipiria, a resident of Badamtalia village in the Mayurbhanj district, created the device to irrigate his farmland from the nearest water source - a river two kilometres away.
The bamboo is placed on a sloping structure and a wheel rotates with the flow of the river, lifting water from the source.
The water is collected in the containers made out of used plastic water bottles.
The water is then channelled through the bamboo pipes towards farmlands.
Tipiria said that he finally came up with the irrigation system after several failed attempts to get help from the government.
Tiparia's nature-friendly device does not use electricity or a generator.
