Snow battered parts of the Sahara desert in Saudi Arabia on Sunday evening (Jan 17).

Footage shows cars struggling through the blizzard which descended on the Louz Mountains in the Tabuk region.

The icy blast saw temperatures fall to -2C in some parts of Tabuk, which is the coldest region of the country.

It came amid unusually cool temperatures this month in the desert kingdom, which sees highs of up to 50C during the hot season.

Snow also fell in Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Iran – where some regions were buried under 4ft of powder.
