Watch as this man carves impressive animals into the surface of a frozen river in northern China.

The impressive footage, shot in the city of Tonghua in Jilin Province on January 11, shows a 37-year-old farmer named Gao Xianfeng using an axe and an ice shovel to sculpt a dragon, a vulture, a tiger, an elephant, a crocodile, a dog, a fish, a snake and a phoenix onto the icy surface of a frozen river.

According to Gao, he started to learn ice sculpting by himself from this winter.

Since he thought it is very interesting to sculpt on icy surfaces and there is a frozen river near his place, he started to carve ice sculptures on it.

来自吉林通化清河镇的小伙高宪锋是一位农民，今年37岁，主要靠种植人参为生。今年冬天，他开始尝试在冰面上进行雕刻创作，雕刻的内容以动物为主。在创作之前，他都会先在脑子里把图案构思出来， 创作一个小的作品需要两个小时，大的需要一天左右。到目前为止，高宪锋已经雕刻了十几种动物，他希望在冬天过去再多创作几个作品，并用视频的方式将他们“定格”下来。
高宪锋介绍：作为一个东北人，冬天玩雪是他们从小到大主要的娱乐方式，之前堆过雪人，今年突然感觉冰面雕刻挺有意思，家附近正好有条河，冰面足够宽广，冰层也很好，正好适合创作。不可思议的是，他本身是一位农民，之前并没有学习过画画和设计，这一切都是靠灵感自学来的。创作工具就是斧头和冰铲，冰面显示的是黑色，可以作为底色，正好可以和白雪搭配，使雕刻出的动物显得很逼真。
