Footage from New Orleans captures the houses and yards of residents living in the West Bank area being decorated to look like floats from the Mardi Gras festival. Celebrations for the world-famous Mardi Gras were heavily restricted this year taking into consideration the pandemic. However, that didn’t stop residents of various neighborhoods in New Orleans decorating their homes in the spirit of Mardi Gras.

Lundie Miears, who captured the footage, knew that houses in the area were being decorated and decided to take her son to have a look while they were out running errands. Lundie has fond memories of Mardi Gras, having attended parades of the carnival festival with her family since she was a child. Though she was sad that her son didn’t get the full Mardi Gras experience this year she is optimistic that celebrations next year will be bigger than ever.

Speaking about the video Lundie said: “This year it’s different and although not much can dampen the spirit of New Orleans, this pandemic has definitely put a dent in it. So, as true New Orleanians, this year Mardi Gras lives on through these float houses.

My son just started really enjoying Mardi Gras last year. But this year we settled for seeing the house that I videoed. The house belongs to a couple who own a very popular vehicle repair shop in (the city of) Marrero, where the video was filmed. The house hit the nail on the head depicting Mardi Gras!

Next year, Mardi Gras will be huge - my son and I will be there for all of it! My son will be 10 years old by then and have his 43 year old momma ready to Mardi Gras with him.”
