Hundreds of students gathered on the Graca Lawns at the University of Cape Town's lower campus to show solidarity with the Wits University protests in which an innocent bystander was shot and killed by police yesterday.

The students also gathered to plan and strategise on a way forward with regards to student fee protests. Students at several universities across South Africa have raised concerns about the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) not providing sufficient funding in time for them to register and secure accommodation for the 2021 academic year.

Students and their leaders were not happy with the presence of the media and asked journalists to leave the gathering.
