Tanzanians bade farewell to President John Pombe Magufuli on Monday (March 22) with thousands lining the streets to watch his funeral procession.

Magufuli, 61, died in office from a heart condition on March 17 in the country's commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

Magufuli was one of Africa’s most prominent COVID-19 sceptics and opposition leaders and his critics allege that he died of complications from COVID-19.

The farewell ceremony was attended by some of the members of the parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, who had a chance to bid farewell to the late Dr. John Pombe Magufuli, former president of Tanzania, earlier today on the parliamentary grounds before the state funeral in Dodoma city Tanzania.

The journey from the parliament grounds to the stadium for the state funeral was accompanied by residents of Dodom, who expressed their emotions after the tragedy. The crowd accompanied the Ex-President’s escort with songs of pain, a sign that this man touched their lives, ‘jeshi, jeshi, jeshi’

The state funeral was attended by dozens of representatives and presidents from 17 different African countries, and more than 50 representatives from various international communities, they all described him as a hero, and the one who carried the vision of the African continent.

After the State funeral of the late President Dkt. John Pombe Magufuli in Dodoma, the body will be transported to Zanzibar , and later to Mwanza, and on the 25th, the late president’s body will be transported to his home in Chato, for the final burial ceremony on the 26th of march.
