New Zealander documents as he attempts to transport 180-kilogram fossil from beach to car
This amateur palaeontologist filmed as he attempted to transport a 180-kilogram (400lbs) fossil he found on a beach to his car.
YouTuber Mamlambo stumbled upon a whale skull in New Zealand and contacted a local museum that wished to study the finding.
Footage from March 14 shows the YouTuber's efforts to move the extremely heavy 12-million-year-old fossil from a beach, up a hill and into his car.
He told Newsflare: "I am an amateur fossil enthusiast from New Zealand and I was exploring a new area when I stumbled across sections of a whale skull that is around 12-million-years-old (mid-Miocene).
"I contacted a local museum who thought it was worth collecting if I could so I set out the next day with my little red wagon to fetch the whale skull material.
"The skull elements include the ear bones which are used to tell what species of whale it is as they are unique from species to species and are very intricate.
"These finds will be donated to a museum to be studied further as it is an important part of whale history that could shed light on the changes whales have gone through.
"The bones themselves have no financial value but are scientifically quite important.
"The entire mission took about five hours."
