A devastating fire ensued panic among the villagers in central India's Madhya Pradesh on July 21. The incident took place in Jagthar village, located in Banda Tehsil of Sagar district.

Visuals feature massive flames scaling from the handpump in broad daylight while a crowd gathers in the vicinity to behold the occurrence. The fire keeps erupting from the pump, ensuing panic among those living nearby.

Professor P.K. Kathal, Geologist in Dr. Harisingh Gour University in Sagar received information about this incident and advised the villagers to stay away to avoid any mishap because they were throwing water on the handpump, making the situation worse as the fire kept erupting. He further revealed that such incidents transpired in several places due to the abundance of carbon particles below the ground, following which blaze kept emanating each time it came in contact with water, resulting in the generation of methane.
