This stunning drone footage captures a volcano after its eruption threatened hundreds of homes in the Canary Islands.

Thousands of people have been ordered to flee their homes as La Palma's volcano continues to spew lava.

The Cumbre Vieja volcano eruption in the Canary Islands began 24 days ago but it has shown no signs of slowing up, with around 1,000 buildings destroyed so far.

On Monday (October 11), the Spanish Navy was called in to help clean volcanic ash that has covered large parts of the island, causing the airport to close. More than 200 military personnel remain deployed in La Palma.

A lava flow, measuring around six kilometres (3.7 miles) in length and reaching temperatures of up to 1,240C (2,264F), continues to pass across the island and enter the Atlantic Ocean. A sea exclusion zone is in place.
