A coach in northern Greece was "swallowed' by a sinkhole on Friday (October 15) as Storm Ballos hit parts of southeast Europe for a second day.

Video shows a coach being lifted out of the 5-metre deep sinkhole in the centre of Thessaloniki, Greece's second-largest city, with heavy-duty lifting equipment.

In the video, coach driver Giannis describes on camera (in the video from 2mins 35) what happened: "As soon as I realized the cracks in the road and the sinkhole emerging, I used the brakes and tried to go backwards but that was when the bus fell inside the hole."

Authorities said all 15 people on the coach were unharmed, according to local reports.

Meanwhile in the capital, Athens, hundreds were flooded and major roads remained closed as the storm crossed the country, heading east.

According to reports, at least two people have died as a result of the storm.
