The central square of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was turned into a battleground on Wednesday, April 30, as hooded youths clashed with police forces, resulting in the injury of one officer who was struck in the leg.

The violent incidents occurred outside the Faculty of Sciences building, where students and activist groups threw stones and fire extinguishers at riot police. In response, officers deployed flash bang grenades and tear gas, causing a suffocating atmosphere across the campus.

The unrest began earlier in the day when a group of students attempted to occupy the Faculty of Natural Sciences to demonstrate against the police presence inside Greek universities. Police forces were dispatched to the scene shortly after. The situation quickly escalated, with masked individuals engaging in aggressive confrontations, turning the university grounds into a zone of chaos and tension.
