Video shows flooding in Cockermouth, Cumbria after levels of the river Cocker rose following heavy rains.

Joseph Hill, who lives in Cockermouth, captured the footage on camera.

He said: “I was shocked at the speed the river had risen since the night before, and very concerned as our barn that we're renovating is entirely flooded and unreachable to assess any damage.

“The power of the river shouldn't be underestimated. Everything was ok until it suddenly wasn't.

"The flood defences were working well but once they failed everything was under water in a matter of minutes.”

The Cockermouth Emergency Response Group said on Facebook: "The Cocker is running very high and we are on the ground there with pumps helping remove surface water at South Street.

"The Derwent is fast and high with some overspill onto Mems. There is a flood warning in place for the Trout Car park and the cricket ground.

"Please put any flood defences you have in place as a precaution. We are already out and about and will keep you updated."
