Amid deadly flooding in Chennai, India, police in the area are resorting to using boats to reach their water-logged Peravalluar police station house on November 10.

The police are without power in the knee-deep water, reports say, despite their continued heroics clearing traffic and rescuing stranded people.

There have been boats arranged by local fishermen, but the boats have to be returned by 4 pm, leaving those in need without options for transportation.

Even as police personnel are fully engrossed in rescuing stranded people, clearing traffic and pumping out water from inundated roads, they themselves are struggling without power supply and to get the essentials in knee-deep water surrounding their quarters even 72 hours since the heavy rain receded.

The worst affected are the Peravallur police station and quarters adjacent to the station, as the families are not even able to step due to the stagnant water. The Corporation has arranged boats for them to go out but the fishermen who operate the boats return around 4 pm, leaving the residents in the lurch.
