A clever dog in New Jersey can even work out where its owner is about to take it when she only spells the word out.

In footage filmed on 17 November, Abby, a Labrador mix, jumped for joy when she heard the letters of the word 'beach'.

Abby is a therapy dog to the filmer's father, who is battling Parkinson’s Disease.

"This sweet girl sleeps with him every night," the filmer says. "My Dad has night terrors due to Parkinson’s. Abby will not leave his side."

"My father is now in a hospice and is no longer able to take her on walks, an activity they both enjoyed," she added.

Abby's favourite place is the beach, so when the filmer spelled the word out, the cute lab worked out what she meant and was instantly excited.

"As we know every caregiver needs a break, relax and have some fun!"
