A huge wild gecko was caught behind a family’s shelves in Thailand.

The reptile’s head was seen poking out from behind a dog’s cage in Ang Thong province on November 14.

Homeowner Natee Diktian, spotted the gecko and, thinking it was a python, called the local snake wranglers to get rid of it.

However, instead of a serpent, the specialists found a large gecko crawling inside.

They used a snake pole to catch the tokay gecko, securing it by its neck before placing it in a container to later free to the wild.

Natee said: ‘When I looked in the dog’s cage I saw a dark-coloured head and thought it was a snake so I called the snake wrangler.

‘They told me it was only a female gecko. I would like to apologise for mistaking it for a deadly snake.’
