A significant storm system brought extensive heavy snow and a gale-force wind to Atlantic Canada Thursday. Snow began at approximately 4 pm in southwestern Nova Scotia and quickly spread throughout the region by the overnight hours. Snowfall rates in some locations topped 5 centimetres per hour.
