Thousands of sunflowers bloomed in a Thai park marking the start of the country's scorching hot summer season.

More than 30,000 bright yellow blossoms covered almost a hectare of the Wachirabenjathat Park in Chatuchak district, Bangkok, this week.

Visitors with pollen allergies can appreciate the flower’s beauty up close as the cultivar selected is a hybrid that does not contain pollen.

The sunflowers were planted in celebration of the Bangkok Flora festival joined by several parks in the city which hoped to promote tourism in the Thai capital city.

In a statement, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said it launched the event to increase green areas in the city. Visitors can take pictures of the beautiful flowers in four different parks across Bangkok from January to July 2022.

Temperatures pass 30 degrees Celsius before the start of the annual rainy season in the middle of the year.
