A large bale of dried grass caught fire while being transported on a delivery truck in Thailand.

The hay was being taken to a farm in Lopburi province on March 14 when the hot weather sparked flames on it.

It had been burning on top of the delivery truck for several minutes with the clueless driver travelling along the road until onlookers signalled to him to stop.

The driver then pulled over and rushed out amid fears the vehicle could explode. Concerned locals and firefighters rushed to the scene and doused the fire after an hour and 30 minutes of effort.

One of the rescuers said: 'The driver tried to put out the fire on his own after pulling over and sustained minor injuries. He was given a first aid treatment immediately.'

The truck's loader was damaged and towed to a mechanic after police gathered evidence. The cause of the fire was still unknown.

All the straw that was loaded was burnt while the truck’s rear was also damaged by the fire.

Police cleared the road path for traffic to move through and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
