DIY-loving mum transforms £8 plastic plant pot into faux stone – saving over £100
A DIY-loving mum with nearly two million followers has shared how she transformed a cheap plastic plant pot into a faux stone one – saving herself over £100.
Amanda Vernaci, 29, a content creator from Clarkston, Michigan, US, wanted to give her plant a more up-market look but wasn't prepared to pay through the nose for a snazzy pot.
Instead, she hit her local dollar store where she picked up a $10 (£8) plastic pot and painted it with some leftover chalk she had lying around the house.
Next, she used a multi-textured colour spray to give the pot a grainy and up-market aesthetic.
With real stone plant pots costing up to $150 (£120) the mum-of-one has saved herself $140 (£111) with her savvy DIY skills.
"It seems silly to spend over $100 on a stone vase when you can spend $10 and get the same look for less," Amanda, who lives with husband TJ and one-year-old son AJ, told Jam Press.
"Regular paint would work too but the matte finish of chalk paint gives a more realistic faux stone look.
"It was such an easy fun DIY that gives you the same stone look at a fraction of the cost.
"All in all it took around two hours when you take in the drying time."
Amanda, who shares her projects with followers on Instagram and TikTok (@comestayawhile), shared the transformation with her 1.8 million followers online.
One TikToker said: "This is such a good idea and it came out so well!"
A second person added: "Thank you for sharing the paint colors. I couldn’t find the right shade and texture [sic]."
"I prefer color! I can't do all the beiges and whites [sic]", commented a third.
