Locals were shocked by a river that had turned red in China on May 10.

A portion of the Leli River in Guangxi province was dyed a creepy red, baffling villagers in Tianlin County who saw its unusual colour.

The Tianlin County Ecology and Environment Bureau said: 'There is an investigation to find out why the river turned red. People along the river are forbidden to use the water.'
