Powerful cold front produces massive Cumulonimbus Cloud over South Plainfield, New Jersey
Greg Machos captured this footage, including a fantastic timelapse, of huge cumulonimbus cloud development over New Jersey.
Greg describes the scene:
The cumulonimbus cloud developed at about 5:30 PM EDT on May 16, 2022, to the north of my location in South Plainfield, New Jersey, USA.
The cloud developed due to a powerful cold front moving into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic that produced severe weather in Eastern Pennsylvania, Central New York, Northwest New Jersey, and parts of Delaware.
Storms had moved through South Plainfield, NJ, earlier in the day around noontime, which dampened the severity of the storms that came through later in the afternoon.
The high temperature at my house was 78 degrees. The Dew point peaked at 62 for a heat index of only 79. The barometer fell from 29.78 inches or about 1008 MB at midnight to 29.50 inches or 999 MB at 4:01 PM.
Total rainfall for the day was 0.26 inches with a maximum rate of 2.39 inches per hour at 12:17 PM EDT. The maximum wind gust was only about 25 mph.
