Bizarre furry sea creature found crawling across Thai beach
A bizarre furry sea creature was found crawling across a beach in Thailand.
The mysterious spiky animal was spotted by tourist Christine Julen while walking along the sands of Koh Lanta in Krabi province on May 17.
Footage shows the critter wiggling the pointy spines on its back to haul itself across the wet ground.
It is believed to be a 'sea potato' or heart urchin, so named because of its resemblance to the blood-pumping organ.
Heart urchins use their modified tube feet to breathe, smell, and pick up pieces of food, while their spines facilitate motion. They are commonly found in temperate seas at depths of up to 230 metres.
