This is the moment a monitor lizard briefly blocked cyclists as they pedalled through a park.

A holidaymaker was strolling around when he spotted the reptile ambling across the pavement at Chatuchak Rot Fai Park in Bangkok, Thailand.

Moments later, four cyclists pedalling along the walkway were forced to stop mid-ride on June 24.

Footage shows the tourists patiently waiting as the lizard slowly sauntered into the bushes.

The group then resumed their ride after the creature slithered through the grass and cleared the path.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
