This was the shocking moment a groom forcefully slapped his bride on the back of the head during a wedding ceremony in the Uzun district of Surkhandarya region, Uzbekistan.

Spectators' cheers were quickly silenced as they witnessed the man, born in 1997, strike his wife, born in 2003, whilst upon a stage.

“I could not restrain myself, and my hand flew. I apologized to the bride. It won't happen again," the man said.

The groom was charged with petty hooliganism.

A 2021 survey in Uzbekistan found that more than 10 percent of male respondents were not opposed to domestic violence, according to EUrasianet.
