Brit reveals hack on how to keep house cool in heatwave
With temperatures set to reach highs of 40 degrees Celsius in the UK, Rosaline Webb, a 28-year-old silversmith from West Yorkshire, has shared her simple tip for keeping temperatures down at home on TikTok.
The trick, says Rosaline in her video, is not to open all your windows – but only to open specific ones.
“Struggling in a heatwave? This life hack will help,” Rosaline wrote in the video’s caption.
“First, shut all the windows on the south side of the house, or the side of the house that receives the most sunlight.
“Next, draw all the curtains to stop the sunlight from flooding in.
“Lastly, open all the windows on the north side of the house, or the side of the house in the shade, to let all the cold air in.”
Rosaline, who runs a jewellery business called Little Red Snail, first heard the tip on BBC Radio 2 some years ago.
She has been using it to keep her and her parents, who she lives with, cool ever since.
Rosaline said: “It does truly work, regardless of what people say.
“I should also point out that the side of my house that faces north receives no direct sunlight whatsoever because of the surrounding houses, so on that side, the house is always cooler.”
Rosaline’s video has resonated with its 416,000 viewers, with more than 8,500 likes on the popular post.
