Huge male Grey Kangaroo scratching to rid itself of pesky ticks

Buy video

The large Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus) is abundant in Yanchep National Park in Western Australia. Western Grey Kangaroos are marsupials, and females carry their young (called Joeys) in their pouch. Males are much larger than females, weighing up to 70 kilograms (150 pounds) and measuring up to 2.2 metres (seven feet) from nose to tail. This large male Western Grey was resting on a mown lawn on a warm, overcast day. It suddenly got to its feet and began licking its fur and scratching vigorously, probably to rid itself of pesky Kangaroo Ticks (Amblyomma triguttatum) that are common on the Kangaroos in Yanchep National Park
