Workers used a pneumatic drill to smash through a concrete floor and save a blind dog who had been stuck in a water pipe for two days.

The eight-year-old female pet pooch with cataracts named Tia had been missing for two days when monks heard her crying at a temple in Ayutthaya province, Thailand on July 13.

Monks and temple staff looked for her in the concrete compound without success until they realised the sound was coming from under the floor.

When they checked the public bathroom, they confirmed that the pooch was stuck in the drain and called the rescuers for help.

Temple worker Kaew Klangjohor, 67, said: ‘The blind dog had been missing for two days. People here were looking for her because she was a sweet pooch.

‘Then one day we heard her crying from under the floor. Tia was stuck in the drain so I contacted rescuers.

‘Until this morning, I heard Tia making sound inside the drain so I contacted the rescue team. I thought that perhaps she had been afraid of people visiting the temple and hid in the drain but could not get out.'

When the animal rescuers arrived, they checked under the drain and spotted the weak pooch on the bottom.

The team had to smash the floor to remove the concrete and tiles before they could dig through and free the dog.

After ten hours, they could make a hole big enough to take the pooch out.

Rescuer Anupong Srisuk, 36, said: ‘This dog was stuck in the drain for two days and seemed exhausted. We didn't give up despite the challenges. We were happy the dog was saved.'

The pooch did not have any injuries despite being dehydrated. She was fed and allowed to rest in the temple.
