There has been backlash in Belarus at a woman caught on CCTV swinging a cat against a wall on 31 July 2022.

In the incident in Volkovysk, the woman slowly approaches the cat before taking it by the scruff of the neck and throwing it into the outside of the residential building she was heading towards. Fortunately, the cat is not so seriously hurt that it can't quickly run away afterwards.

But her apparently shocking treatment of the animal did not go unnoticed and Police have worked out her identity -- a 41-year-old city official, apparently angry that the cat did not allow her own pet to pass for three days in a row. It is not clear what animal her own pet is.

The case is currently under investigation and the woman faces a possible fine.

Perhaps surprisingly, she is reported to see herself as a victim in this case, of online persecution by angry animal-lovers after the video went viral.

The identity of the woman has already been established. She said that she hit the cat because he did not let her pet through for three days. The police are investigating the matter.
