Plane being towed at LaGuardia airport crushes tractor as driver miraculously survives
This is the dramatic moment a plane being towed across the tarmac crushed a tractor but its driver was miraculously unscathed.
The American Airlines Boeing 737 was being moved from its hangar to the gate at the LaGuardia Airport in New York, USA to prepare for departure on August 2.
Footage shows the tow vehicle pulling the plane and making a sharp turn on the runway. However, the jet's momentum sent it spinning towards the cab. It then collided and flattened the tractor.
Fortunately, the driver managed to duck just in time to avoid decapitation. He was seen pinned between the cab and the 90,000-lb plane but was reportedly unharmed.
An airport spokesman said: 'There were no reported injuries to team members but as a precautionary measure, one team member was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.'
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey that operates the airport also said the incident caused no flight delays.
The damaged jet was returned to the hangar for repairs and was replaced with another plane to take over the flight.
The Port Authority added: 'Safety is our highest priority, and we've launched an internal investigation to learn more.'
