Temperatures have dropped to as low as 18 degrees Celsius in northern Thailand as the country nears its cold season.

The chilly weather settled over Phayao province, causing fog and layers of frost to form in fields on October 20.

Villagers out for their early morning grocery run wore long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, and jackets to protect themselves from the cold.

Thailand's meteorological department said the country's cold season will officially begin on October 30, adding it is expected to linger until mid-February 2023.

Locals will experience the lowest temperatures between December and the end of January, the agency said.
