Anti-government protesters gather to condemn police violence at APEC summit in Thailand
Anti-government protesters gathered today to condemn the police violence used to suppress the rally at the APEC summit in Thailand.
Footage shows the demonstrators carrying pictures of people injured in the clashes last week, including a Reuters photographer who was hit in the eye by a glass bottle.
The crowd marched to various embassies including the U.S., Japan, Germany, Singapore, and Vietnam.
It came after riot police fired rubber bullets at protesters gathering at the Democracy Monument in the capital Bangkok when they were blocked from the entrance of the building where leaders from across Asia were gathered for the junket on Friday November 18.
Demonstrators had marched through the city as leaders joined the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2022 summit which started a couple of days earlier.
Violent clashes erupted with riot squads firing rubber bullets at demonstrators and charging at them with shields. One man collapsed injured, a female photographer was hit in the face by a glass bottle and a male photographer was hit in the eye by one of the projectiles. Both of them received treatment at the scene for their wounds.
China despot Xi Jinping - fresh from his clash at the G20 in Bali with liberal Canadian PM Justin Trudeau - arrived for the event and warned of 'attempts to wage a new cold war'.
