This is the moment a heartbroken goose cried in a car trunk when it was about to be given away to new owners at a farm in China.

The waterbird was about to leave its friends to join a new family when it appeared to start shedding tears in Sichuan province.

Feeling sad for the bird, the new owner, Zhao decided to return it to the confused farmer, who was also her friend.

Footage from the incident on November 11 shows the goose secured inside a sack with its head and long neck poking out as water droplets appeared to fall from its eyes.

Zhao said: ‘I changed my mind the last minute even if the bird was already inside my car. I couldn't bear seeing it crying and being sad.'

She added that the goose was raised at a farm, but it lived freely at the farmer's home until it was time to give it away.

Zhao said: ‘The bird will stay with my friend. It was smart and became close with them.'
