Thousands join a protest mainly held by primary healthcare workers and pediatric professionals in Madrid, Spain, today (January 15).

Demonstrators are concerned about the deterioration of public medical care in the region. Madrid residents are witnessing long queues at the A&E departments and the system is at the point of overload. Health workers demand more staff, rooms, and ambulances.

Protesters criticised the health policies of the president of the Madrid region, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

Carmen Esbrí, the spokesperson of the association Mesa en Defensa de la Sanidad Publica en Madrid, said that approximately 200,000 citizens don't have a GP because they are either on leave or retired.
