Hero driver helps put out fire from burning car on motorway
A hero driver pulled over and put out the fire from a burning car on a motorway.
The good Samaritan Aek Lin was caught in an unusual traffic jam along a highway in Surat Thani province, Thailand when he saw the scorching vehicle on January 31 evening.
But while the other drivers simply continued their journeys, the quick-thinking truck driver immediately stopped and carried a fire extinguisher he always kept handy in his compartment.
Dashcam footage shows Aek dousing the flames that engulfed the broken-down small SUV. The fire appeared to have started on the vehicle's engine between the front fender and the wheel.
He said: ‘I always carried the fire extinguisher for emergency situations like this. When I saw the car, my first instinct was to stop and help.'
Another truck driver was also seen stopping to help control the fire with his own fire extinguisher.
Aek added: ‘It always pays to be ready for unexpected events like this. You will never know when an accident can happen until it does.'
Even after the fire was out, the two kind truck drivers made sure there were no sparks left on the vehicle.
The drivers stayed on the scene in case the SUV ignited again. No one was hurt as the blaze was immediately controlled but the car had to be towed away as it was damaged.
The cause of the fire was unclear but Aek said he was relieved no one was seriously hurt.
He said: ‘I only did what was right. I am touched that people praised my good deeds.'
