Survivors were rescued from under the rubble of a collapsed building after a catastrophic earthquake struck Turkey killing at least 640 people across the region on February 6.

Footage shows the rescue of several locals, including a young boy, after a building in Turkey's Kahramanmaras region was destroyed.

The magnitude 7.8 quake was recorded at a depth of 24.1 kilometres near Syria's northern border at 1.17 UTC, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

Government officials said at least 640 were killed across Turkey and neighbouring Syria, but the death toll is expected to rise as hundreds more are feared trapped.

The USGS said the quake also jolted Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, Iraq, Georgia, and Armenia.
