Couples can enjoy underwater weddings to mark Valentine's Day in Thailand this year.

The 26th Trang Underwater Wedding Ceremony made a comeback to Trang province, three years after the annual event was postponed due to Covid-19.

With scuba masks and oxygen tanks completing their wedding ensemble, couples can exchange their vows while completely submerged in water.

Thirawat Wangsirilert, president of the Trang Chamber of Commerce, said: 'We plan to change the concept from focusing only on the underwater ceremony to also include the love story of the couple.

'The annual ceremony is usually held from February 13 to 15 to celebrate Valentine's Day but the schedule was busy this year so we pushed back the date.'

The rites - seen as stale after two decades - are being revamped with the help of the Young Entrepreneur Chamber of Commerce. The new concept is seen to boost tourism in the province, which is recovering after the pandemic.

The annual Christian festival remembering Saint Valentine has proved a commercial success in the Buddhist-majority Southeast Asian country.
