Bakers build gigantic stand-inside 'Beauty and the Beast' cake for little girl's birthday party
Bakers built a gigantic stand-inside 'Beauty and the Beast' cake for a little girl's seventh birthday party
Footage shows the team putting the sweet pieces together to complete the astonishing 15ft-tall princess-themed dessert made of sugar flowers in Cebu province, the Philippines on February 10.
A huge stained glass image of a rose like the one in Beauty and the Beast was hand-painted by one of the bakers. It then stood proudly in a hollowed-out pogo-like section of the cake where the birthday girl could stand.
The team of 16 cake decorators had to use ladders to reach on top of the cake and stick white sugar flowers.
Speaking in the video, head baker Cheryl Go says: 'I'm recording this experience because this is definitely one I'll never forget. I'm literally on top of trusses, just so I can reach my cake and I'm already close to the ceiling of the Santa Maria ballroom of the Radisson Bleu hotel. This is my view, just so that I can ice my cake.'
Cheryl said the cake was designed to have a chamber inside to house the birthday celebrant but the size was spacious enough to hold up to six people, including her father and best friends.
The walls and decorations were all edible and took two weeks to finish by a team of 16 bakers.
Cheryl said: 'It was probably the biggest birthday cake for a seven-year-old that I have seen. We were happy that the parents gave us the opportunity to create such a once-in-a-lifetime cake.'
The floor to ceiling cake was supported by a customised table due to its size.
Cheryl added: ‘The idea was to turn the celebrants into live and moving cake toppers. It turned out really cute.'
The cake was the highlight of the girl Marselle's seventh birthday which was attended by her families and friends at the Raddison Bleu hotel
The record holder for the tallest cake in the world measured 108.27ft and was made in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2008.
