This stunning timelapse captured the northern lights dancing in the night sky above Terschelling, the Netherlands, on February 27.

The incredible visuals show the sky being illuminated by the aurora borealis' green, red, and purple glow.

"Several people stayed up overnight to watch the natural light show," said the filmer.

"The auroral lights are rarely visible from the Netherlands, and if they are there, they can only be seen with cameras. Usually, when it is already in the Netherlands, it remains only with a green glow on the horizon, last night the coloured 'pillars' above it were also visible with the naked eye," they added.

These particles are released after an explosion on the sun called a solar flare. The colors can vary from green, red and purple/pink.
