The 15th UK Wife-Carrying Race was held on Sunday 5 March in Dorking, Surrey, with couples from across Europe participating in the bizarre event.

Pairs navigated the 380-metre course facing obstacles along the way, including hay bales and volunteers throwing buckets of water.

The majority of the couples were from the UK, but couples from Lithuania, Belgium and Finland also participated.

The rules state the "wife" does not have to be the carrier's actual wife, can be male or female, but must be over 18 years old and weigh at least 50kg.

The winners receive a barrel of local ale worth £150 (180 US dollars), and £250 towards their expenses at the World Wife-Carrying Championships, which takes place in Finland in July.

The winning couple of the UK competition this year were Vytautas Kirkliauskas and Neringa Kirkliauskiene from Lithuania, who have previously won the World Wife-Carrying Championship twice.
