Russian travelers claimed to have broken the world record for the longest non-stop flight distance in a thermal balloon, flying over the Arctic in a hot air balloon.

The balloon took off from Murmansk on March 22 and landed in Khatanga, covering a distance of 2,540 km, reportedly surpassing the previous record of 2,366 km set in 1994.

The journey was monitored by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

It is currently unknown if the new record has been validated by the Guinness World Records.
