Dozens of environmentalists swam across three provinces in Thailand to promote marine conservation.

The sea protection group Sea You Strong, led by 'Mermaid Man' Siranat Scott or Psi Scott, started their relay marathon across the Andaman Sea on April 28.

They set out early morning from the Hat Yao district of Krabi province, swimming towards their first stop at Koh Poda island after covering 15 kilometres.

The group first took a lunch break before swapping teams to head to Koh Daeng and Koh Hong islands 17 kilometres away, after which they retired for the day.

On the second day, they swam towards Koh Yao Yai in Phang Nga province and ended at the Ao Po area of Phuket, having covered 72 kilometres in two days.

The team finished the last stretch of their mission today, with several boats escorting them for safety. Sea conditions were favourable, and the marathon was finished within the group's allotted time.

Psi said Sea You Strong came up with the activity after seeing a news report of a person swimming across the sea to catch the attention of authorities.

He said: 'We wanted to conduct our own swimming marathon to raise awareness about the importance of marine conservation. We also hope to encourage people to take care of the marine ecosystem.'
