This is the dramatic moment water surged into a village as a flood barrier broke in central Thailand.

Footage shows the debris-filled floods submerging streets in Singburi province after a temporary embankment collapsed from rising water pressure on Wednesday afternoon.

Residents were left stranded by the deluge, which inundated three villages and swamped more than 300 homes and roads near the Wat Prasat temple.

Provincial authorities have warned them to evacuate to higher ground as more water is set to be discharged from the Chao Phraya Dam.

Thailand's Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency said some 813,817 rai (1,300 square kilometres) of land has been submerged in central Thailand.

Locals criticised the government's water management efforts as bungling officials battled to address the flooding.

Deputy Prime Minister Thamanat Prompao said the Royal Irrigation Department has been ordered to accelerate flood drainage across Suphan Buri, Sing Buri, Chainat, Ang Thong, and Uthai Thani provinces to help farmers access their paddies.
