Environmental activist group Ocean Rebellion staged a protest performance outside the venue where hundreds of delegates are gathering for the Deep Sea Mining Summit in London (May 3).

A heavy metal band 'The Polymetallic Nodules' blasted music outside the hotel in Canary Wharf as smoke flares billowed in the wind, against deep sea mining that they say will cause pollution and irreparable damage to seabeds and the eco-system it supports.

The minerals sought by companies intending on mining the ocean floor, include gold, cobalt, zinc and manganese, used in the manufacture of electronic devices.
