One-eyed baby goat stuns villagers in Indonesia
A newborn goat kid stunned villagers in Indonesia when it was born with just one eye.
The hapless creature emerged from its mum's womb with a single eye and no nostrils in a village in Lombok Tengah in West Nusa Tenggara province on May 7.
Masdar Farid, 26, said the goat's owner Suprapto, 30, has been raising goats for a long time.
The kid was delivered at around 8 PM, but died 20 minutes later and was buried.
Taufikurrahman Puanote, head of the Central Lombok Agricultural Agency, said it had a genetic abnormality due to an error during embryo formation.
The baby goat is believed to be suffering cyclopia, a rare genetic defect in which the offspring's brain fails to divide properly into two hemispheres during development.
This results in various physical abnormalities, including missing mouths and noses, in which case the newborn dies from suffocation shortly after birth. Cyclopia is linked to low survival rates.
