Protesters marked the 13th anniversary of a brutal military crackdown that had killed dozens of activists in Thailand.

Supporters of the anti-military regime 'Red Shirt' movement held a rally in the capital Bangkok on May 19 to remember the 92 people who had died during the political upheaval in 2010.

Footage shows a red banner adorning the overpass in front of the city's Central World mall while portraits of the deceased were displayed in a graphic memorial.

Buddhist monks led prayers for the departed, and there were also impassioned speeches from the group's leaders.

The Red Shirt movement, associated with Thailand's United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship, began after a 2006 military coup that ousted then-Prime Minister and populist figure Thaksin Shinawatra.

Enraged supporters - many of whom were rural farmers and working class citizens - demanded the dissolution of the military government that replaced him.

The unrest culminated in a brutal military crackdown that killed at least 90 and injured 1,500 more on May 19, 2010.
