No-smoking Day: Argenteuil (Paris suburb) deploys the first "Space without tobacco" in the park of the Town Hall. (Video: 1 june 2023).

The grounds of the Argenteuil Town Hall becomes a completely non-smoking area for relaxation and rest from Wednesday 31 May. Georges Mothron, Mayor of Argenteuil, inaugurates the first outdoor tobacco-free space in Argenteuil.

The fight against smoking is a top public health priority and is part of the city's line of sight. The introduction of the “tobacco-free space” label in Argenteuil initially denormalizes the act of smoking by reducing the exposure of children to passive smoking and also by reducing the entry into smoking of young people. Secondly, this label encourages adults to quit smoking.

The Argenteuil Municipal Youth Council has taken over the project and is offering communication tools to better reach young people as well as strong actions to be implemented as part of this inauguration. Environmental reasons are also important. Maintaining a cigarette butt-free space and promoting the example of healthy public spaces makes it possible to have a quality living environment.

The City is committed to extending the label from September 2023, to other places such as around schools or parks.
