Real-life Hachiko dog waits two months for owner to return
An abandoned pet dog in Thailand has been waiting for its owner's return for more than two months, mirroring the tale of Japan's legendary faithful canine Hachiko.
The brown female dog showed its unwavering loyalty by waiting every day for its master next to a road in Uthai Thani province.
Villagers had seen the pooch roaming the area and initially thought it was just a stray. However, they grew concerned after noticing the collar around its neck, with its owner still nowhere in sight.
Moved by the dog's plight, Dam Namkang, 56, said she began feeding the animal as it continued to stay near the highway.
Speaking this week, the resident said she believes that the pooch's owner has moved away or died, leaving nobody to take care of the animal which is still looking for its master.
She said: 'I have no idea where the dog came from and how it ended up here. I'm not sure if it was abandoned or if it fell from a car because no one has come forward to claim it. We've seen it chasing after passing cars sometimes, but it would always return to the same spot.
'The other residents also feel sorry for it, so they try to bring it some food and water regularly. Unfortunately, there is no trace of its owner. I took the photo of the dog to try to spread the word because this dog seems to love its owner very much.
'He is waiting for someone and looking for them but they are nowhere to be found.'
Namkang said she had also tried to take the mutt back home, but it would never follow her despite being friendly.
Fearing the dog might be run over by oncoming vehicles, Namkang has taken to social media pleading for its owner to take it back.
Hachiko was an incredibly loyal dog in Japan who faithfully waited for his owner Hidesaburo Ueno at Shibuya Station for nearly a decade, even after the man's passing in 1925.
His unwavering dedication touched the hearts of many and turned him into a symbol of loyalty worldwide. A memorial bronze statue has been erected at the station in his honor, standing as a reminder of his remarkable story.
