STORYLINE:

A "Chinese Bridge" language proficiency competition was held in Costa Rica Thursday with the participation of elementary and middle school students.

The Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica Tang Heng said at the event that cooperation between China and Costa Rica has generated fruitful results in various fields.

"China and Costa Rica alike have their respective splendid and diverse cultures. Both countries advocate for peace, development, openness and inclusion, and they recognize the utmost importance of high-quality education for all."

In the school category, the winner was 10-year-old Saul Solano Arias, a student at the International Christian School, while the collegiate competition awarded first place to 18-year-old Gretel Vanessa Alvarado Mora from the Purral Technical Professional School.

"China has been such a part of my life. To be able to achieve something here and be able to go there in the future, is my dream coming true. I feel so happy and complete."

In addition to delivering speeches in Mandarin, the contestants also showcased their talents in singing, dancing, calligraphy, and martial arts, among others, during the contest.
