A superyacht crew member has revealed some of the strangest requests she has received while working at sea for billionaires – including being asked to watch someone eat.

Giselle Azueta first started working on superyachts a few years ago after a friend invited her to see one while they were working on board.

The 39-year-old loved the surroundings and the idea of being part of the industry, so began to look at courses.

Her first position was on a rented yacht and even though she found it stressful to start with, Giselle soon fell in love with the job.

“I always liked the sea very much and traveling is my passion,” Giselle, who is now the ‘head stewardess’, told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“In the family, we had a yacht in Puerto Vallarta, so I had a vague idea of boats and grew up sailing.

“I never imagined that it was a career that existed so when I discovered it, but it soon became a dream to work as a stewardess on superyachts.”

But it can be a very interesting job – with Giselle asked to take on some very random requests over the years.

She said: “On one occasion, a multimillionaire guest made a proposal that he would pay $10,000, (£7,899), to a crew member who defecated on top of a glass table while he lay under it.

“A different guest made the request that he wanted one of the hostesses to be watching him at all times while he ate dinner.

“And the hostess had to stand in the corner of the dining room, watching him eat dinner.

“But I think that all of us who dedicate ourselves to working on these yachts are crazy.

“You agree to live on a yacht in the middle of the ocean with strangers!”

Giselle has also shared some of the top superyacht secrets.

She said: “You can never use the word ‘no’, in the industry, any request, no matter how strange, crazy or strange it may seem, is our duty to do so.

“As long as it is not sexual or threatens the health or life of the crew.

“Superyacht owners also say that the crew has to match their yacht, they have to be as pretty as their yacht.

“That's why in this industry you see a lot of young people and beautiful [people], it is a requirement to be 'fit'.”

In her current role, Giselle is fully in charge of the interior of the yacht and dealing with the guests.

She said: “I am in charge of making all the purchases for the crew, the guest preference list, decoration purchases and guest amenities.

“I love to plan the events and theme dinners!

“But I also have to supervise the laundry and housekeeping hostesses, as well as being in charge of the yacht's administration and accounts.”

For anyone looking to go into the industry, Giselle recommends to at least try it out, saying it makes you grow as a person and you become extremely independent.

She added: “You know yourself a lot since you spend a lot of time with yourself.

“It's a very well-paid industry and it's also a very superficial industry.

“But all the incredible places, the views, the sunsets, the friends and friends what do you do from different parts of the world, make it all worth it.

“The crew become your family.”
