Türkiye should diversify its energy sources and engage further in green transition and renewables to reduce its foreign energy dependence, a Turkish energy expert has said.
In a recent interview with Xinhua, Mithat Rende, a former ambassador and analyst on energy affairs, explained that the Russia-Ukraine crisis told everyone a lesson not to be dependent on a sole country for energy.

"In order to further enhance energy security, Türkiye should focus on its domestic energy sources. The Turkish authorities should also make use of the newly explored natural gas in the Black Sea. They should focus on maybe the green energy transition, which is of utmost importance. Because of international and ambitious domestic climate goals, we should switch to renewables."
Türkiye is heavily dependent on foreign energy sources, on Russia for gas mainly. But with newly explored natural gas in several locations off its northern coast in the Black Sea, the nation hopes to reduce costly energy bills in the years ahead.
